We will start with an early drive from Mérida to Chankom, a Mayan village near Chichén Itzá, an excellent birding destination with a mix of tropical lowland forest, open areas, and secondary vegetation that host a high diversity of species, including several Yucatán endemics such as the Rose-throated Tanager, Buff-bellied Hummingbird, Yucatán Woodpecker, and Yucatán Flycatcher, along with regional specialties like the Black Catbird, Gray-throated Chat, and Yellow-lored Amazon. After a short transfer, we will combine birding with a cultural visit to Chichén Itzá, exploring its world-renowned Mayan ruins.

In the afternoon, we will continue our birding experience with a cultural visit to Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. We will be guided by a specialist in Mayan culture while keeping an eye out for birds around different areas of the archaeological site, such as the Kukulkan Pyramid, the Ball Court, the Observatory, and the Sacred Cenote.
