2026 is a very special year for the ornithological and birding community, as Mexico proudly hosts the International Ornithological Congress (IOC Congress), which is organized by the International Ornithologist Union and the Sociedad para el Estudio y Conservacion de las Aves de Mexico (CIPAMEX). The beautiful city of Mérida, Yucatán will receive scientists from many parts of the world who will present innovative bird research.

Since we received the news that we will be the official tour operator, our team at Birding México Expeditions got straight to work with a clear goal: to design the best field experience for all the specialists and bird lovers visiting the Yucatán Peninsula.
How is it going? A Full House and Great Enthusiasm!
We are thrilled and grateful for the incredible response. As of today, we already have many colleagues and birders from all over the world registered for our tours. Seeing so many attendees trust us for their field trips motivates us to take care of every minor logistical detail.

What Are We Offering for the IOCongress 2026? We know that an international congress schedule can be tight. That's why we have designed 12 routes and 48 tours that adapt to any itinerary, whether you have free time before the conferences, are looking for a quick getaway between sessions, or want a grand post-congress expedition.
Small and exclusive groups: We limit our outings to groups of 4 to 8 participants. This guarantees comfort, personalized attention, and above all, a high-quality birding experience without the crowds.
Epic expeditions: Multi-day routes like our Cozumel to Calakmul circuit or the incredible Río Lagartos & Forest Birding Route are ideal for checking off the region's top endemics. And of course, an amazing route to Chiapas and Oaxaca.
Single and half-day getaways: From full days to Celestún and the Puuc Route, to morning trips near Mérida or around the archaeological majesty of Chichén Itzá.
Visit Us at Our Booth During the Congress!
In addition to joining you in the field, we will be present right at the event venue. We will have a booth where our team will be ready to greet you. If you find yourself with free time in your schedule at the last minute, we will be offering personalized assistance and registering participants for our single-day tours during congress right there.

At our booth, you will also find the perfect souvenir of your visit to Mexico. We will be selling a variety of bird-themed souvenirs, including caps with bird designs, shirts, buffs, keychains, and stickers. Furthermore, if you need to upgrade or complement your field tools, we will have specialized equipment for sale, such as binoculars and audio recorders for bird calls.
Still Undecided? If you are still putting together your preliminary itinerary, we invite you to visit our official congress page. There you will find our complete departure calendar and a very practical tool to help you choose the ideal tour depending on the days you have available before, during, or after the event.
Spaces are quickly being reserved, so we recommend booking your spot for the pre and post-congress tours as soon as possible. The International Ornithological Congress and the chance to enjoy birding in Mexico await you!
